UWFox Opens Unique Vintage Radio Collection Exhibit
Posted by N9LT on 2009/11/13 16:42:40 (7 reads)
News

Menasha, WI – One of the most unique artistic and museum-quality exhibits will be on display in the Aylward Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. The antique and vintage radio collection of Clyde Stephenson will be available for viewing at UWFox from November 2 through December 4. Max Schultz, director of the campus’ Aylward Gallery, and Dr. Joanne Kluessendorf, director of the Weis Earth Science Museum – the state’s official mineralogical museum located on the UWFox campus - have creatively collaborated to plan, shape and produce this exhibit. With approximately 24 of Stephenson’s radios on display, as well as reproductions of vintage graphics and historic sound recordings to compliment the radios, the exhibit promises to be one of the most fascinating art shows to be held in northeast Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Assembly Bill AB 429
Posted by ND9DW on 2009/10/23 7:36:52 (27 reads)
News

A recent bill is being proposed to handle the problem of inattentive
driving and this might affect amateur radio mobile communications in
Wisconsin. I asked Jim Lackore, AD9X, State Government Liaison, to
look into it and report his findings:

AB 429 FACT SHEET
Jim Lackore, ARS AD9X, WI Section State Government Liaison Officer
1. AB 429 relates to the use of "wireless telecommunications devices"
while driving.
2. AB 429 defines a "wireless telecommunication device" as "...any
cellular telephone, two-way radio or citizens band radio, personal
digital assistant, or other device being used by the device's operator
to transmit verbal communications, electronic mail, text messages, or
any other electronic communication to one or more persons not
physically present with the device's operator, but does not include any
global positioning system device installed in or on a vehicle."
3. AB 429 exempts certain persons and uses -- BUT DOES NOT EXEMPT THE
MOBILE USE OF AMATEUR RADIO EQUIPMENT BY LICENSED AMATEUR RADIO
OPERATORS.

Nifty Google Maps Trick
Posted by AB9IO on 2009/9/2 23:09:43 (34 reads)

I noticed that QRZ.com will list all the hams in an area if you just enter the zip code. OK, that's cool - but what if you want to plot them on a map? I was pondering this and I found a nifty tool. The trick is as follows:

Go to http://www.qrz.com and enter in your zip code in the search box. Press search.
